Harvest Time

12-September-25
Our beautiful harvest.

We had a great harvest on Wednesday despite the rain which thankfully was not too heavy.

5th class harvested 14.5 kg of beautiful potatoes. They are drying off in the classroom so that everyone can take some home this week. They also tasted the sweetcorn they planted. A few cobs between many!

4th class were amazed at the size of the onions they planted in the spring. The broad beans have set seed so we will try to collect them on a dry day, so we can sow them in early November.

6th nibbled some raw Italian Chioggia and also normal beetroot.

The pumpkins that 1st and 2nd planted are still a bit green, so we are leaving them to ripen more before harvesting them. However, their carrots were absolutely wonderful. Some very big and lots of smaller ones that are great for eating raw.

We showed all the Infants what we had harvested and explained that the peas had gone to seed. We will collect these to plant next spring.

A very good year even though it was very dry!

If you are interested in helping in the garden please contact Ann in the office for a Garda vetting form.

Kindest regards,
Wendy Nairn
